Newsletter: Term 1 - Week 2

A Message from the Principal

RAT Delivery – Students whose parents have not opted out from RAT distribution should receive their tests for weeks three and four this afternoon and bring them home in their school bags. For any students absent, these will be sent home with them upon their return. We hope this distribution approach proves to be far more manageable and efficient for our community.

‘Getting to Know You’ Yarns – You should now have received communication regarding our ‘Getting to Know You’ yarns which will be holding next week for all year groups and into the following week for preschool owing to the number of students we have in this cohort. Many thanks to the families who have already booked into this event. If you haven’t done so already, please log on to school interviews and make an appointment. We will be shutting off bookings during each school day next to enable teachers to log on each morning a confirm their bookings for that day. We will reopen the platform each afternoon to enable families to book into the next day if required.

School Evacuation – On Thursday afternoon we had an unexpected evacuation from classrooms due to a sensor which was triggered in one of our learning areas. The fire brigade attended quickly and confirmed a false alarm with no evidence of smoke, fire or danger to safety. Despite this, I was pleased to see our students exit promptly to our vaccination space on the oval at the rear of the school. Should we have any future alarms or planned drills, I ask that should you be attempting to collect your child during this time, that you wait at the front of the school until we have received the all clear from emergency services. Thank you for your understanding with this.

Illness Reminder – We’d like to remind all families that should your child be showing clear symptoms of illness, please do not send them to school. Our teachers are vigilant in monitoring students throughout the day and should they notice symptoms of illness, they will let our front office know and you will be asked to pick up your child. This is in line with ACT Health and Education Directorate guidelines.

Parking – We have had a number of reports from our community regarding illegal parking from families at pick up and drop off times. I have included an image of a traffic management map shared in previous years indicating the spots around the school where you can legally park. I do understand the complications cohorting and different gate entries has had on pick up and drop offs but do ask that for the safety of our students that you park in designated spots only. ACT policing regularly attend our neighbouring roads and can issue infringement notices.

Newsletter format – Many thanks for your understanding as we transition programs into a new newsletter design and I’d like to apologise for the technical issues last week. I am hoping that these have now been rectified.

BASE provides information for our teachers about each child’s knowledge in literacy and numeracy. A pamphlet with more detailed information from the ACT Education and Training Directorate will be sent home today.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN Online will occur in our school between 10 and 20 May 2022.

NAPLAN Online is a more engaging assessment that adjusts questions to each student’s achievement level. It also delivers more precise results to schools and parents more quickly.

NAPLAN provides valuable information to schools and parents about literacy and numeracy achievement. It supports school improvement processes by enabling teachers to monitor student progress over time and to identify areas of strength and development.

All eligible students are encouraged and supported to participate in NAPLAN testing. Visit www.nap.edu.au to see interactive versions of the test and for more information.
