2023 Stationery/Book Packs

Stationery orders can still be placed with winc however there is currently a delivery delay.

The stationery and books that your child requires for the 2023 school year are available to be ordered through winc.  As advised last year, we are moving to self-purchasing of stationery and book packs rather than making a contribution to the school. Families are requested to purchase the packs through winc as your child will need to have everything listed for the 2023 school year.

Stationery lists are available on the school website Book Packs - Neville Bonner Primary School (nevillebonnerps.act.edu.au)

Please visit the winc website Home Winc Schools and follow the instructions on the stationery list to place your order.  There are many payment options, even zip pay payment plans!

We are also aware that some items from the book packs are on back order. Please check your emails from winc and contact them should you have any questions.

Web based subscriptions.

Will be invoiced separately in the coming weeks if you have chosen to supply your child's stationery. If you ordered with winc these were included in the cost of the pack.

Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

This week the students have been learning all about the expectations in all settings. That is what is expected of them everywhere when they are a student at Neville Bonner. We have included an image of the expectations in all settings for you.

We are continuing with our positive acknwoledgments and tickets. This week we gave out seven canteen vouchers for students who have shown our key expectations of being safe, respectful, learners. Our PBL ticket count is up to 2236. We are aiming for a total of 3000 tickets before we have our next whole school celebration.

Specialist Team

At Neville Bonner Primary School we have a dedicated team of specialist teachers who provided learning opportunities for our students. To learn more about what is happening across the school and meet the teachers who form part of our specialist team please watch the videos below:

Auslan Sign of the Week

This year in our Kindergarten cohort we have welcomed a new student who is deaf. She is currently learning how to communicate through Auslan. As we are a community of learners, we felt we should all learn together!

This week’s signs are ‘Good Morning’ and 'Good Afternoon'. There are two ways to sign Good Morning. You will see in the video Laisarn gives one sign and then mouths ‘or’ (signs 🤙), then gives a second sign. This is because there are two signs for ‘good morning’. In the kindergarten learning space we are using the second sign. The explanation behind it is that the thumbs up represents ‘good’ and the hand tapping near the underarm represents placing the morning paper under your arm.

We are grateful for Laisarn for putting together these videos for us. Stay tuned for next week’s sign! Below is also the sign for ‘Hello’.

Fresh Tastes Heathly Food at School

Lunchboxes: Freshen up school lunches

Your little experts like to pack their own lunchboxes!

Healthy food and drink choices in lunchboxes can fuel kids with the right energy so they can concentrate, learn and play at school. Packing a healthy waste-free lunchbox is great for the environment.

Food from Home has a focus on preschool and kindergarten as this is when lunchbox habits first form, however, the support and resources on the website are suitable for older primary school kids who like to pack their own lunchboxes too.

Year 2-6 Dance Club

Passion & Purpose Academy - Years 2-6 - Wednesday Lunchtime Dance Program

Passion & Purpose Academy is Gungahlin’s fastest growing and only multicultural dance school, providing Canberra families with the most affordable hip hop dance classes for kids outside school hours.

Passion & Purpose is again very excited to offer Neville Bonner students the opportunity to participate in their lunchtime dance program every Wednesday. This helps parents as they don’t have to worry about transport after school or over a weekend!

The dance program will allow students to participate in interactive and beginner friendly Hip Hop and Afro dance routines, with a strong focus on building confidence, teamwork and staying active!  Dance classes will be held every Wednesday lunchtime in the hall from 1:30pm-2:00pm.

Payment is $85 per child for the 9 week program starting in Week 2 (8 Feb) and going until Week 10.

There are still a few spots left! Please enrol online to register your interest.  www.passionandpurpose.com.au

You will receive confirmation of your place in the program once you have registered online (this email will come from Passion and Purpose). For any dance program enquires, please email Carly at passionandpurposeinfo@mail.com

Medical Information

At the start of each school year every child is required to have a new medical information and consent form completed . Along with this any medication (and action plan) that is required is to be delivered to the front office, and a medical consent form is to be completed.

Any students who received a swimming carnival note received a hard copy of this form (last page ) and can use this to meet the above requirement.

Preschool and new students will have completed this form as part of the enrolment pack and are not required to complete another one unless details change over this year.

Kindergarten to Year 2 students or anyone wishing to access the form please see attachment accompanying this weeks newsletter link. Hard copies are also available at the front office.

- The bag(s) will be collected by the Return-It/CDS group and counted at one of their facilities (during a quiet period of their day).

- A notice of deposit will be received by the P&C - Thank you!!!

There are two, close to school, return points located at:

- Gungahlin: O'Brien Place - near the carwash, Gungahlin Vet and Goodyear tyres.

- Amaroo: near theschool oval off Horsepark Drive.

The returns generated from the scheme will assist the P&C to support the school, from sports equipment, school discos, Year 6 end-of-year surprises, etc.
