Newsletter: Term 1 - Week 11
A Message from the Principal
Year 6 Camp
On Monday our Year 6's embarked on a journey to Camp Cooba. They braved freezing wind and rain to face their fears on the assault course, ride bmx bikes and do a leap of faith. They put their skills to the test during archery and collaborated to complete low ropes and pull their peers to the top of the giant swing. They learnt about leadership, being part of a team and giving things a go! It was a successful camp and we are very proud of our Year 6's. A big thank you to all our teachers who attended camp, our teachers are not paid for their time in the evening and have to leave their families so we really appreciate them offering to go to support our students.
Athletics Carnival
Our Athletics Carnival for Term 2 will be held in Week 3, we have moved it forward to anticipate slightly warmer weather then last year. If you haven't returned your note these can be handed to the front office in Week 1.
Holidays
Wishing everyone a safe and restful two weeks. We are so proud of all our students and look forward to seeing them on Tuesday 30 April for Term 2, and end of week preschool, Thursday 2 May. Our teachers will return the day prior to learn about cognitive load theory and explicit teaching to support our school improvement goal 'improving students reading outcomes'.
Sylvia

Zones of Regulation
In Term 2 across Neville Bonner Primary School teachers will be teaching using a program called The Zones of Regulation. This is an intervention that helps children manage difficult emotions, known as 'self-regulation'. From time to time, all of us (including adults) will find it hard to manage strong feelings such as worry, anger, restlessness, fear or tiredness, and this can stop us from getting on with our day effectively. Children who feel these emotions often find it hard to learn and concentrate in school. The Zones of Regulation aims to teach children strategies to help them cope with these feelings so they can get back to feeling calm and ready to learn. We will provide more information about the zones and what they are in future newsletters.
