Information Sessions

Our information sessions this year are virtual and contained further down in this newsletter. We listened to parents' feedback from last year and have made these available to watch anytime. We thank our teachers for the work they have put in to make these videos possible.

P&C

We love the work our P&C do for the school and the support they give us. I really encourage you to come along this coming Monday night, 7pm and meet our wonderful group. You can enter through the front office and the meeting is held in the staffroom. I will be there and I would love to see many of you there too. For more information please see the P&C section of the newsletter.

School Board Nominations

Another important group in our school is our school board. The school board serves an important role in the school and has the responsibility for overseeing the school's strategic direction. Nominations are now open for our school board and we will have three positions vacant, P&C Member and two Parent Members. If this is something you would be interested in please see further down in the newsletter.

The Shepherd Centre - Loud Shirt Day

Our school supports The Shepherd Centre a provider and specialist in helping children with hearing loss learn to listen and speak through hosting a Loud Shirt Day. The total raised last year has now been donated and was very much appreciated and a massive help for The Shepherd Centre. Congratulations to the Neville Bonner community for raising a huge $624.70.

Parking

We ask everyone to be actively involved in keeping our students safe by parking in designated carpark spaces or following signs for street parking. Parking on the verge including nature strips is not safe, damages the ground and may incur a fine.

Supporting student safety - mobile speed and parking vans

As school re-commences for term 1, we are reminding parents and carers to please drive and park safely and legally, at and around school grounds.

Access Canberra has notified us that mobile speed and parking vans will be in operation. These enforcement teams play a critical role in supporting our students get to and from school safely and we thank them for their ongoing support.

In addition to sticking to the speed limit, please remember to park safely – including not parking across pedestrian crossings, in no stopping zones, on corners, verges and double parking. Unsafe and illegal parking can reduce visibility of our students and motorists to see each other, creating a significant hazard when students cross the road.

We all have an important role to play in supporting road safety. Let’s work together to keep our kids safe.

Before School Supervision

We have a teacher on duty 8:30-9:00am on The River, this is the main area of the school grounds. The teacher on duty wears a bright fluro vest so they can be easily seen. We ask that all children stay on the river, basketball courts and wagabaliri before the bell goes. Other playgrounds areas are not supervised and we ask families not to let children play on these before school.

Wigs4Kids Fundraising

Lexi from Year 5 is fundraising for ‘Kids with Cancer’ and will donate her hair to the ‘Wigs4Kids’ foundation. She will be cutting her hair in March and although she has already reached the initial goal of $1,000, she will continue to update the goal every $500 until she cuts her hair.

Please see the QR code if you would like to support Lexi and make a donation.

Medical Information

A reminder to please complete your child's medical information and consent form. Hard copies are available at the front office.

At the start of each school year every child is required to have a medical information and consent form completed. Along with this any medication (and action plan) that is required is to be delivered to the front office, and a medical consent form is to be completed.  If your child no longer has a medical condition and does not require medication, please let us know.

Preschool and new students will have completed this form as part of the enrolment pack and are not required to complete another one unless details change over this year.

Islamic Education

For our families who observe the Islamic faith, in 2024 we will be offering an Islamic Education program to students. Much like the Christian Education in Schools program which is in many ACT schools, this program being delivered by Islamic Education Services (ACTIES) will see volunteers come in and teach Islamic studies This will be a once a week half hour lesson on a fixed day of the week. If you would like your child/ren to participate in this program in 2024, please complete the Islamic Education Student Registration Form

Update Household Details

If you have moved house or changed phone numbers, please be sure to update your details with the front office.

You can do this in person at the office or via email: nevillebonnerps@ed.act.edu.au

It is important to keep this information up to date in case we need to contact you in an emergency as well as for when the new parent portal is released later this year.

Thank you, the admin team.
