Newsletter: Term 2 - Week 4

A Message from the Principal

Reconciliation Day – We will be observing Reconciliation Week from the 29 May to 2 June where learning groups will consider their Acknowledgements of Country to incorporate recognition  that we recognise any other people or families with connection to the lands of the ACT and region. On the Friday of week six (2 June) we are registered to participate in ‘Wear it Yellow Day’ where children and staff are encouraged to wear yellow. We will be asking for a gold donation for those that participate where all funds raised will go to Children’s Ground, a service that supports First Nations communities in the Northern Territory.

School Review – We have now submitted our evidence for our school review which will be occurring in week 7 of this term. As part of the school review process, the panel like to hear the viewpoints of parents. This will include a number of focus groups on the Tuesday afternoon where they hope to hear from a wide cross section of our parent community. If you have an interest in being involved please don’t hesitate to let me know through my usual contact details.

Year 5 Camp – Our year five students thoroughly enjoyed their camp at Stanwell Tops. They participated in a variety of outdoor activities that challenged them to work outside of their comfort zone. There were certainly some exhausted faces late on Wednesday afternoon when the coaches arrived back at school.

Wear It Yellow Day

As part of our National Reconciliation Week this year, on Friday 2 June (and Tuesday 6 June for the Monday Tuesday Preschool groups) we are encouraging all students and teachers to take part in a yellow-themed casual dress day to raise funds for a First Nations organisation, Children’s Ground. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2023 is ‘Be a voice for generations.’ This theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and play. As part of ‘Wear It Yellow Day’, students will engage with National Reconciliation Week learning materials and have vibrant discussions about First Nations culture and history. We remind students and teachers who take part to bring in a gold coin to donate to Children’s Ground.
