A reminder that subscription invoices are now overdue. Families who did not order book packs with WINC were emailed invoices for web based subscriptions last term. As our education system continues to grow and evolve the ACT Government is considering a range of legislation improvements to ensure our systems and supports remain contemporary, and reflect the needs of students, families and teaching staff now and into the future.

Reforms are being considered to:

• clarify school enrolment requirements

• modernise participation and attendance requirements to reflect the different methods of education delivery

• strengthen enrolment, attendance, and participation provisions to minimise the risk of children and young people disappearing from the education system, and

• outline requirements for distance education.

The Smith Family (ACT) offers a range of programs to help families and individuals to stay engaged with education. Saver Plus is a program with a specific focus on supporting families and individuals with low incomes to meet their education expenses.

Saver Plus is a matched savings and financial education program that aims to help people on lower incomes to strengthen their financial skills and to develop a savings habit. The program provides financial skills education and motivates participants to save by matching their savings dollar for dollar, up to $500. These savings can be used to pay for education costs such as computers, books, uniforms, extracurricular activities and school excursions.

Apply now for the Future of Education Equity Fund for the 2023 school year. Eligible low-income ACT families can receive one-off payments for financial aid to help cover the costs of their children’s educational costs, such as sport equipment and activities, music lessons, school uniforms and excursions. The Fund is open to eligible students enrolled in preschools that are attached to an ACT government school, through to Year 12 in the ACT. As you may be aware, there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases across ACT public schools in recent weeks.

To help stop the further spread of COVID-19 in our school, we are encouraging and implementing the following measures:

• Students who are COVID-19 positive or displaying symptoms (including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever) should test and must not attend school while unwell.

• Parents and carers must inform schools if their child is COVID-positive.

• Keep up to date with vaccinations.

• Families can access a free rapid antigen test (RAT) from the front office of their school. Nasal and saliva tests are available. Test when symptomatic or as a precaution.

• Practise good hand and respiratory hygiene.

• Distance where possible.

Hope you’ve had a good week! This week’s signs are ‘token and ‘walk’, as they align with PBL and our new token system. In all settings we move safely, meaning in most settings we walk throughout our learning environments.  

P&C Committee meetings

Committee meetings are moving to Week 2 and 7. Our next meeting is: Week 7: 5 June 2023 – 6pm. We are always happy to have new people come along. We meet in the staff lounge for just over an hour, sometimes quicker. Come along and see how we are looking to support the school and students.

Second Hand Uniform Shop

Neville Bonner Primary School P&C Second Hand Uniform Stall is hosted under the school hall covered area.

** Term 2 - Week 6 - Wednesday 31st May, from 8.45am to 9.45am.

** Term 2 - Week 7 - Wednesday, 7th June, from 2.45pm to 3.45pm.

We have loads of pre-loved uniforms for sale. Preferred payment is via EFTPOS, however cash will be accepted. If you have good quality school uniform items you no longer need, the P&C will gratefully accept your donation to our second hand uniform stall through the canteen (or please place them in the tub near the front office).

Scholatic Book Club

Issue 3 orders have been returned to the school and should make their way home next week.

Issue 4 catalogues will also be sent home next week and close 16 June 2023.

Unfortunately, we can NOT accept cash orders through the front office, please place orders through the Scholastic Book Club LOOP website.
There is an option to select 'gift', during the order process, if you do not want your child to receive the order. If you select this option you will receive a phone call to collect your order at a different time. Don’t forget 20% of every sale is given to us in ‘rewards’ that the school can use to purchase resources from the catalogues.
