A Message from the Principal

School Satisfaction Survey - You will have been sent an email today with a link to the 2022 School Satisfaction and Climate Survey. We strongly encourage you to complete this survey which gives the opportunity to give feedback about your child’s experience at school. The information garnered from this survey is important to us as a school, and identifies what we do well and how we can improve. Students in Years 4 -6 also complete a student satisfaction survey giving us important insight from them, and staff too, also complete a survey. Thank you in advance for having your say on our school and as always, I am happy to receive feedback all through the school year where I can be contact via the school’s front office on 61421201.

2023 Intentions -

Parents of students in Kindergarten to Year 5 should have received an email on Monday requesting that you fill in a Microsoft Form to advise if your family are intending on leaving Neville Bonner Primary School at the end of the year. This information is critical to our planning for 2023 and we ask for anyone leaving to let us know through this form.

2023 Book packs -

I wanted to again remind families that in 2023 we will be changing our existing model of book packs. Work has started with Winc (a stationery company) to finalise book packs for the 2023 school year. We will send out year group lists at the beginning of Term 4. Winc will create individual packs for students which will be ready for the start of 2023. For families who order a book pack before the end of the school year, you will qualify for free shipping (which is normally $12.95), and the pack will be delivered to school. For those who miss this window, your pack would be delivered to your postal address.

Our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair on Monday the 22 of August until Friday the 26 of August. The fair will be held in the school library every morning from 8:30am until 9:00am and every afternoon from 3:00pm until 3:30pm (closes Friday morning).

Our Book Fair Family Event is on Wednesday from 3:00pm until 6:00pm and we would love to see you there!

You and your child will have the opportunity to explore a huge range of affordable books featuring characters and subjects kids love and want to read about. From newly released books and bestsellers to award-winning titles and perennial favourites.

This is also a great way for you to learn about and discuss your child's interests and every book sold benefits our school, adding resources to our library and classrooms.

Scholastic Book Fairs help us show students the wonder of reading. After all, when kids choose their own books, they will be more excited to read, and they will naturally read more!

Book Week Parade

We will be celebrating Book Week at Neville Bonner on Tuesday 23 August. The theme this year is "Dreaming with eyes open”. On this day, students are encouraged to dress up/accessorize to reflect a book character with whom they connect. Due to the financial pressures on many families at this time, we encourage you to keep this a low-cost event and create costumes from household items.

Students are also encouraged to complete a reading challenge over the week. See below some fun ideas to encouraging reading at home.

Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

In Semester 2 Neville Bonner Primary School will be starting to implement Positive Behaviours for Learning or as it will be frequently referred to PBL.

What is PBL?

PBL is an evidence based whole school systems approach. At Neville Bonner Primary School we will be:

  • Developing consistent expectations of behaviour across the school. These will be developed in consultation with staff, students and the community.

  • Use consistent language across the school to support positive behaviour choices

  • Students will be acknowledged for demonstrating these positive behaviours

  • Have specific lessons to teach behaviour expectations with opportunities to practices these expectations in the playground and the classroom

  • Will be underpinned in our school by our Ripple of Kindness program and our school values

You will hear more about PBL throughout term 3 and 4. We will be inviting parents/carers to give feedback on various aspects and assist us to develop our whole school expectations.

If you have any questions or would like to hear more please feel free to contact me.

Visual Arts by Sea Tucker Collectors

A rainy day inside waiting for the sun to come out. This situation inspired us to look at Van Gogh’s artwork about nature in his painting ‘Olive Trees with yellow sky and sun’. Sea Tucker Collectors used oil pastels and different line strokes to create their own interpretation of the painting. During our learning group reflection everyone shared their ideas about the amazing colours found in nature.

100 Days of Kindergarten

On Friday 12 of August, the kindergartens celebrated their 100th day of kindergarten. We went to Kevin’s kindy class to interview them about their special day. Everyone wore pyjamas and had the treat of watching a movie at the end of the day. The kindy's excitedly told us that they watched Pippy Long Stockings. The kindy's claimed that they had done no work at all that day other than an amazing activity related to the number 100, like making 100 crowns and the other activity was all the numbers up to 100 were scattered all around the building and the kindy's even told us they found some of the numbers on the roof! They also wrote their names 100 times can you believe it!

Here are some of the kindy's favourite parts of the day:

Thomas said that he loved writing his names 100 times.

Tanvi said making a crown and wearing it was her favourite!

Dakota said finding 100 numbers was her favourite.

And Lochlan said watching the movie was really fun.

The class did a vote and the most favourite thing of their day was making the crowns!
