Newsletter: Term 3 - Week 8

A Message from the Principal

We have just two weeks left until the end of term three. You will be aware we have continued to have pockets of staff absence, but have not yet needed to go into remote learning for any of our year groups. This continues to be a possibility, however, with the weather starting to gradually warm I’m hopeful that this won’t eventuate. I managed to join our Kindergarten classes at the National Zoo and Aquarium last Friday for their excursion. It was wonderful to see our younger students out of the school environment learning about a host of different animals. Many thanks to the parent volunteers and our Kindy team for making this happen.

Academic Reports - Semester Two - ACT public schools have commenced preparing student reports for Semester 2 2022. The Education Directorate has again made the decision that student academic reports will be provided with an overall A-E grade, and an assessment of achievement standard statements on a 5-point scale. Reports will not include detailed teacher comments.

This strategy supports schools to prioritise teaching and learning as we continue to manage workload pressures due to COVID-19 and other illness. Our teachers will continue communicating directly with families about student learning and you are encouraged to speak with your child’s teacher if you have any questions about their progress.

School Disco - Last Friday’s school disco was a great success. It was wonderful to see so many smiling excited faces having a great time. Well done to all volunteers involved. It was an enjoyable evening here.

School Satisfaction Survey - The school satisfaction survey has been extended by one week so if you have not yet completed this, there is still time. Thank you to all families who have already engaged with this. The information garnered from it will be important to our school in determining areas of improvement and success.

NAPLAN - Parents of students in Year 3 and Year 5 should receive results from the NAPLAN assessment held in May by the end of this week. As well as giving you a snapshot of how your child is performing this assessment also gives us important information on how our cohorts are performing and can provide areas where we need to tailor our learning programs to our students’ needs.

Public Education Awards - The 2022 ACT Public Education Awards nominations are now open. We have many excellent staff at Neville Bonner Primary and I’m sure some families may like to acknowledge this. Anyone can nominate someone who is making a real difference to the lives of students, the school or the broader community. Information can be found here.

2022 School Satisfaction & Climate Survey

The 2022 School Satisfaction & Climate Survey is now OPEN!

As part of our continuous effort to improve ACT schools, the Education Directorate invites you to give feedback in an online survey about your experience of your child's school. Your responses will help your school to identify what it does well and how it can improve. The data will also be used to underpin school improvement practices and inform government priorities, as well as in research projects and longitudinal studies aimed at improving the quality of education services in the ACT.

Please complete the survey ONLINE at

https://acteducation.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0SM21r8U6W56JW6

Your login details:

Your login for the survey is the email you receive school communications from, and the school code for our school BNRP

The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete, and you can access it from any mobile device until midnight, Friday 16 September 2022. Your participation is voluntary, but we do hope you will help.

The Education Directorate is committed to ensuring this survey is accessible for all. If you have difficulty accessing or interpreting the survey, please contact Brittney Philips via email Brittney.Philips@ed.act.edu.au for assistance.

Thank you for your participation.

Lost Property

We have many UNLABELLED pieces of uniform and lost property.

On Monday and Tuesday morning next week, all of these items will be placed on the river for you to have a look through. Please collect any lost items from the piles.

We would like to remind families that lost property is not collected or stored at the front office.

Effort is made to return labelled clothing to the child's class when found. Please label each item of clothing to make this process easier. Every building/class has a lost property collection. Please check for lost items in your child's learning area.

Sharing Food for Celebrations

We are happy to invite families to bring in food to share for birthdays and celebrations.

We ask that you please comply with our allergy policy and do not include nuts or nut products.

Future of Education Equity Fund

Applications are now open for Future of Education Equity Fund – Round 2, 2022.

The ACT Government's expanded Future of Education Equity Fund provides financial assistance to low-income families (and independent students) with students in years P-12 to meet the costs of education expenses, such as school uniforms, school excursions, sport equipment and activities and music lessons through a one-off payment.

The Future of Education Student Equity Fund Round 1 opened in late 2021 for families with students in years 7-10. Round 2 is only open to families who have NOT already applied for and/or or received payment to support their students in the 2022 school year using a paper based form.

The following payments are available to those who meet the eligibility criteria:

· $400 for preschool students

· $500 for primary school students

· $750 for high-school and college students

2022 applications close 30 September 2022. Only applications received by this date will be processed. There is no limit on the number of students for whom each applicant can apply, providing they meet all conditions.

Library Book Fair Success

Our school library book fair was held earlier this month and was a huge success.

There was so much excitement and enthusiasm for buying books from the fair from children and adults alike! As a result we made over $2000.00 worth of profit to spend on more books for our library (see picture below).

Thank you to all for your continued support for such a wonderful event.

- Deposit the bag(s) into the hopper.

- The bag(s) will be collected by the Return-It/CDS group and counted at one of their facilities (during a quiet period of their day).

- A notice of deposit will be received by the P&C - Thank you!!!

There are two, close to school, return points located at:

- Gungahlin: O'Brien Place - near the carwash, Gungahlin Vet and Goodyear tyres.

- Amaroo: near the school oval off Horsepark Drive.
