Newsletter: Term 3 - Week 10

A Message from the Principal

Dear families,

Today is the final day of term three and we have just one term left until the end of the school year. If you are lucky enough to be travelling for the school holiday period, travel safe. If you’re staying in Canberra I hope you manage to get some relaxing family time in over the next two weeks.  Term 4, starts on Monday 9th October.

Staff Absence – We have had a number of classes affected by teacher absence this term, where in some cases the absence has been for a longer period of time. We do our very best to ensure learning continues and to have a regular face on the class for our students when their teacher is away for an extended period of time.  The national teacher shortage has added a level of difficulty to covering classes when we see unexpected absences and seasonal illnesses. We are proactive in booking relief teachers in advance and will continue to work hard to minimise disruption to learning.

Swim School - This week our Year 2 students attended Gungahlin Pool for the Aqua Safe course. This course teaches students water safety and awareness and has been thoroughly enjoyed by our learners. We will continue to sign our Year 2 students up for the program in coming years to give them this valuable opportunity.

Crazy Sock Day -  It was great to see many of our kids in crazy socks today which was a reward for filling up the PBL tubes with tokens. It is great to see our students being rewarded frequently for displaying positive behaviours. Our students have very quickly grown accustomed to the safe, respectful, learner language and know the expectations around each one of them.

Year 5 National Archive Excursion – This week, our Year 5 students went on an excursion to the National Archives which linked to their immigration and democracy unit. Students specifically learnt more about the link between the gold rush and immigration in a series of sessions at the archives.

LSP Murals and Upgrade – If you are picking up and dropping of using our entrance gates on  Muriel Stewart Circuit, you may have noticed two new murals in our learning support program outdoor spaces. These add a refreshing splash of colour to the playgrounds and have been well received by our students. Over the holidays, work will be occurring in our Junior LSP playground where the space will be modernised and upgraded.
