Newsletter: Term 4 - Week 10

A Message from the Principal

I’d like to thank our community for what I think has overall been an excellent year at Neville Bonner Primary. I feel privileged to be principal of this school and have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside a highly supportive P and C and Board, and a great community. 2023 will be another busy year! I’d like to wish everyone a safe holidays and great New Year!

Year 6 Graduation – Our Year 6 graduation was a wonderful event and a very rememberable ceremony to mark the end of their primary school attendance. Today, for their final day of primary school, they are going to Belconnen to watch a movie and upon their return at the end of the day will make their way through a guard of honour comprised of our Kindergarten to Year 5 students. A huge amount of work went into the preparation of yesterday’s event – Many thanks to Kerry for her superb organisation and the year 6 team for their very able support.

2023 Start Dates – Preschool M/T groups and Kindergarten students will commence Term 1 2023 on Monday 30 January. All returning students in Year 1 to Year 6 will start on Tuesday 31 January. Preschool T/F groups will start on Thursday 2 February. A meet and greet for new students in Year 1 to 6 will be held on Monday 30 January. Information will be sent to these new families via email.

Passion and Purpose – Last night at the Canberra theatre a group of 25 of our students performed in the Passion and Purpose dance concert. They represented the school very well. We are looking to continue our involvement with Passion and Purpose in to 2023. A number of our staff gave up their evening to supervise students back stage on the night – thank you to Sylvia, Tam, Courtney, Britanny and Beth.

2023 Stationery/Book Packs

Don't forget to order! Do it now before the Christmas rush!

The stationery and books that your child requires for the 2023 school year are now available to be ordered through winc. As advised earlier in the year, we are moving to self-purchasing of stationery and book packs rather than making a contribution to the school. Families are requested to purchase the packs through winc as your child will need to have everything listed for the first day of the 2023 school year.

Stationery lists were emailed home and are available on the school website Book Packs - Neville Bonner Primary School (nevillebonnerps.act.edu.au)

Please visit the winc website Home Winc Schools and follow the instructions on the stationery list to place your order.

All orders placed by 29 December will be delivered to the school for free on the 26 January.

Orders placed after 29 December will be charged an additional $12.95 for delivery and the pack will be delivered to your home address for you to bring to school on the first day of the 2023 school year.

There are many payment options, even zip pay payment plans!

Medication at School

If your child has medication at school it was sent home with them today.

At the start of each school year every child is required to have a medical information and consent form completed. Along with this any medication (and action plan) that is required is to be delivered to the front office, and a medical consent form is to be completed. If your child no longer has a medical condition and does not require medication, please let us know.

Mix 106.3 Pack the Bus

A huge thank you to all families who have generously donated to the Mix 106.3 Pack the Bus charity collection. It has been wonderful watching the pile of donations grow, and hearing the children's voices filled the excitement of giving.

We received a mountain of new toys and books for children, clothing, essential food items, and toiletries that will be distributed across Canberra to those families that need some assistance at this time of year.

The very generous donations were collected from the school this morning by Transport Canberra and delivered to Communities@Work to be wrapped and packed for families in need this Christmas.

Thank you for sharing the spirit of Christmas.

2023 Enrolments

Are you ready for the 2023 school year? Is your child transitioning to another school next year? It’s not too late to enrol your child in their local school. Make sure you submit your application before the current school term ends on 16 December 2022. Enrolment applications received after that date may not receive notification until late January 2023. Return-It Scheme

The P&C have registered with the Canberra Return-it scheme, you can donate to the P&C by using the mobile number (0497233172) or QR code. The process is:

- Place your bags of cans or bottles into a semi-see-through bag (they need to see it's not general household rubbish), a normal kitchen tidy bag is okay.

- Enter the phone number (or scan QR code), from the flyer, at the return point, follow the remainder of the instructions and attach the printed sticker to the bag.

- Deposit the bag(s) into the hopper.

- The bag(s) will be collected by the Return-It/CDS group and counted at one of their facilities (during a quiet period of their day).

- A notice of deposit will be received by the P&C - Thank you!!!

There are two, close to school, return points located at:

- Gungahlin: O'Brien Place - near the carwash, Gungahlin Vet and Goodyear tyres.

- Amaroo: near theschool oval off Horsepark Drive.

The returns generated from the scheme will assist the P&C to support the school, from sports equipment, school discos, Year 6 end-of-year surprises, etc.
