2023 Stationery/Book Packs

The stationery and books that your child requires for the 2023 school year are now available to be ordered through winc. As advised earlier in the year, we are moving to self-purchasing of stationery and book packs rather than making a contribution to the school. Your child will need to have everything listed for the first day of the 2023 school year.

Stationery lists were emailed home and are available on the school website Book Packs - Neville Bonner Primary School (nevillebonnerps.act.edu.au)

Please head to the winc website Home Winc Schools and follow the instructions on the stationery list to place your order.

All orders placed by 29 December will be delivered to the school for free on the 26 January.

Orders placed after 29 December will be charged $12.95 and delivery will be to your home address.

There are many payment options, even zip pay payment plans!

106.3 Christmas Giving Tree

We will have a Christmas tree set up in reception for you to drop off donations for the MIX 106.3 pack the bus charity collection. Donations will be collected and delivered to Communities at work to be wrapped and packed for families in need this Christmas. Thank you for your generous donations of non perishable food items and unwrapped toys.

Inclusive Education Strategy - Have Your Say

Have your say! The Education Directorate is working to strengthen inclusive education and is reviewing the way ACT public schools deliver disability education to inform a draft Inclusive Education Strategy. The Strategy will provide longer term direction and system reform to embed inclusive cultures and educational practice in ACT Public Schools. A discussion paper presents a draft position statement on Inclusive Education and 7 proposed themes for the Strategy, informed by the Community Conversation and a review of contemporary evidence. Further information is available on the Education Website- Strengthening Inclusive Education including a link to the Discussion Paper, an online survey and the Community Conversation Report. We look forward to hearing your thoughts on this important work. For further information please contact the Inclusive Education Strategy team via email - EDUInclusiveEducationStrategy@act.gov.au

Stay COVID Smart

As we experience new waves of the virus in our community, we need to remember to stay COVID Smart not only in the community but also at school. For the latest advice, watch the ACT COVID-19 update (November 2022) from Chief Health Officer, Kerryn Coleman.

If your child has COVID-19, you must keep them at home and let the school know. Telling us when your child has COVID-19 will also help us track if there is an increase in COVID-19 transmission at school and manage any high-risk exposures for our more vulnerable school community members.

Being COVID Smart is easy

· Make sure you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines, including boosters.

· Stay away from schools if you are unwell.

· Wash your hands regularly.

· Wear a mask in public indoor places if you can (12 years and over).

· Keep a distance from others when indoors, if possible.

And don’t forget – if you have COVID-19 symptoms, make sure you get tested. You can access a free rapid antigen test from your school’s front office. Keep up to date at COVID-19 (act.gov.au).

Remembrance Day 2022

The Remembrance Day assembly was on Thursday 10th November. The reason that the assembly was not on the 11th is because it was market day on the 11th. We had the Remembrance Day assembly to remember all of the people who served in World War 1. During the assembly the two poems were told (In Flanders Fields and Remember Me), Tam said the ode, Will played the rouse and the last post and there was a minute silence. There were many defence kids involved in the assembly and Tam and Will were also involved in the assembly.

“The assembly was all about remembering the people that were lost” Ethan from year 6.

“I think the assembly was fun, nerve racking and it was cool, I also think it helped us have a better understanding of Remembrance day” - Hunter from year 4.

“It was exciting, fun and scary” - Pippa from year 4.

“Remembrance day is important because we remember the people who died in the war” - Addie from year 6.

On Friday the 11th of November, some students went out to the front of the school to raise the flags and lay some wreathes for Remembrance Day at 11am.

Thank you to the Neville Bonner Primary community for your support in raising funds together with the RSL to bring awareness around Remembrance Day. A total of $202 was raised.

Library

Dear Families,

It is that time of year where we need to ensure all the library books are back in the library. Borrowing will cease on Friday the 18 November and all books are due back to the library by Friday the 25 of November. Look out for a note that will be coming home with a list of the books your child has that are due back. Please call or come and see me if you have any questions or would like further information about the list of books you receive.

Remember to keep reading over the holidays! Thank you for your co-operation,

This everyday object is so GREAT!! (Keira, year 4). "The hairbrush was light and easy to use. There are two, close to school, return points located at:

- Gungahlin: O'Brien Place - near the carwash, Gungahlin Vet and Goodyear tyres.
