Newsletter: Term 4 - Week 3

A Message from the Principal

School Improvement Plan – Following the school review process in term two, the senior leadership have been busy developing a new school plan. The plan continues to focus upon student performance in reading and is now available to read on our school website under the school board page. As part of our focus, we will be looking at improving how we differentiate for all of our students. This work will draw upon a lot of the learning our teachers have covered in 2023 on implementing effective small group instruction in our literacy programs.

Before School Supervision – We welcome students on grounds to be supervised on the river and basketball areas from 8:30 in the morning until the start of the school day at 9:00am. We have executive staff on duty in this area only and regularly remind our students this is where they need to be. Although our students are well aware of the rules surrounding the start of the school day, a few of our students in upper primary have been reported to have arrived at school and then left school grounds. Unlike the school day where from between 9:15am and 2:45pm all school gates are locked, there are a few gates that these students could abscond from. I ask that all families who are dropping off children in Years 4-6 remind students of the importance of staying on school grounds, and remind them of the safety implication of not doing so. In response to this behaviour the school has placed increased support on the bike gate entrance on Mabo Boulevard, giving us more visibility of any students attempting to depart this way.

Loud Shirt Day – Many of our students dressed up to support loud shirt day which raises money for the Shepherd Centre. The Shepherd Centre supports children with hearing loss. I will share the amount raised when this is finalised.

Colour Run - Thank you to all families who have supported the fundraising efforts of the P and C and school for our very first colour run. This support is appreciated. As a reminder the colour run will be open to all, regardless of whether or not the family has fundraised. However, to participate all students must have a signed permission form. If this did not come home with you please contact the front office for another one.

Mascot Unveiling

You may remember that last year we held a mascot competition. The winning design was sent to Eddie Longford who is a contemporary artist who is a proud Wiradjuri man, who was born and raised on Ngunnawal/Ngambri land. He used our school colours to design the mascots. We have included a picture of our new mascots below. These will be on our PBL signage and other places around the school. They may even pop in for a visit next year.

The mascots are Sandy the safe sand goanna, Tay the respectful eagle and Tarly the learner sea turtle.

Fortnightly Focus Week 3 & 4- We use the toilet space only for using the toilet and the sink.

If your child suffers from hay fever or seasonal allergies please make sure they are taking their medication daily before school. If they require more medication, eye drops, sprays etc throughout the day please visit reception to drop this off and complete authority paperwork.
