Newsletter: Term 4 - Week 9

A Message from the Principal

We have just one more week of the school year left. The last week will be another busy one. We will be having our Art Show on Tuesday (with which you should now have received information about), holding our Year 6 Graduation on Thursday, and on the final day Kristen and Nige will be broadcasting their breakfast show live from the school.

I wrote in a previous newsletter the importance of letting the school know if your child is not returning next year. We request that all families who have not yet let the school know to do so at your earliest convenience. This information is critical for setting up the new school year and our operation into 2024.

Hot Weather- Summer has certainly arrived where we have had some very warm weather this week and the forecast shows that we’re in for much of the same next week. Please could all parents ensure their child is bringing a hat and water bottle to school. It’s important that our students are protected from the sun and stay well hydrated during this weather. We will monitor the heat during these days and if the heat is too extreme we will call an inside break instead of allowing students on the playground.

Student Reports – Student reports for K-6 were sent out yesterday. If you have not received your child’s report, please contact the school’s front office to let them know. We are not having formal parent teacher interviews at the end of the year, however we do welcome you to contact your child’s teacher if you have any queries. At the beginning of next year we will have our normal getting to know you yarns which will give families the opportunity to have a discussion with your child’s new teacher.

Mr Huff – Students from P-6 enjoyed the performances of Mr Huff this week which was a dramatic interpretation of the book of the same name. This was a whole school PBL reward for students which also through the content of the book aimed to positively impact their wellbeing.

PBL Signage – You may notice the PBL signage across the school clearly outlining our behavioural expectations for certain areas of the school. This is part of the PBL approach in ensuring clear and consistent messaging of expectations for our students.

Mr Huff and PBL Signage

Our PBL signs went up on Tuesday. These help students, teachers and the community know the expectations in the different areas. Our three PBL mascots are also on them Sandy (the safe sand goanna), Tay (the respectful eagle) and Tarli (the learner turtle). Included below are some  photos of these.

On Wednesday and Thursday we had Meercat prodcutions come to the show to present a production of Mr Huff. Mr Huff is a story about the clouds and sunshine in each of our lives. A child called Bill is having a bad day and Mr Huff is following him making his day worse. Bill is trying to get rid of him, but Mr Huff just gets bigger and bigger. Then Mr Huff and Bill both stop and something surprising happens. Please see below for a few images.

10th Anniversary Art Show

Mix 106.3 Kristen and Nige Breakfast Show

We're thrilled to announce that on Friday 15 December from 6am to 9am, our school will be buzzing with excitement as we welcome Kristen and Nige, the hosts of Mix 106.3 Breakfast Show, right here on site! Following the immense success of last year's Pack the Bus campaign, we're gearing up for another fantastic event.

Join us for a morning filled with laughter, fun activities, and entertainment as we bid farewell to this school year. To make this celebration even more enjoyable, Mix 106.3 are organising a delightful BBQ breakfast.

A giving tree is proudly displayed in our reception area. You can contribute by dropping off your generous donations of non-perishable food items and unwrapped new toys under the tree. Your donations will make a difference in the lives of families in need this holiday season and will be wrapped and distributed by Communities@Work.

On the day of the event, the Mix 106.3 charity bus will be parked right here at Neville Bonner Primary School, and Kristen and Nige will be on site to thank you for your generosity. Let's come together, make a difference, and spread the joy of giving this festive season. See you on December 15th!

We will be running a BBQ to support the Art Show next Tuesday, sales from 3pm to 6pm or until sold out! Sausages $3, drinks $2; GF, Halal and vegetarian options will be available while stocks last! If you are available to help out, even for an hour, please email nevillebonnerps.pandc@gmail.com.

Scholastic Book Club
Issue 8 items have arrived, they are being sorted for return to the school. If you specified a gift the school will notify you when it is ready for collection.

The Scholastic Book Club will return in 2024, with two issues per Term, and a great range of books, puzzles, and other items available in each catalogue.

Don’t forget 20% of every sale is given to the P&C in ‘rewards’ that the school can use to purchase resources from the catalogues.

This year the P&C has been able to contribute over $2000 towards books for the school library, thanks to purchases throughout the year.

Gardening Crew
Do you like spending time outside, gardening or pulling weeds? Or perhaps you would like to learn about gardening? If you have answered yes to any of these then you may like to spend a few hours each month helping to maintain our kitchen garden space. P&C are looking for volunteers who would like to join our gardening crew as we embark on a 10 month project to bring life back to our kitchen garden space.

Keep an eye on the P&C Facebook Page for Gardening Bees coming up in the school holidays.

CARDBOARD BOXES

We need boxes, preferably without any plastics on them, as we are looking to cover the existing beds to smother the weeds and grasses, as the first stage to rejuvenation.

We're happy to take any donations, the larger the better.

Please drop them through the red gates, onto the concrete, at the top of the school closest to the Bonner Traffic Lights.

Please let the P&C Facebook Messenger know when you do too, so we can ensure they don't become a littering hazard.

Second Hand Uniform Shop

Neville Bonner Primary School P&C Second Hand Uniform Stall will be closed for the remainder of 2023.

We are looking for stall volunteers for 2024. The best day can be up to you, previously Wednesday's have been either:

- 8.45am to 9.45am (usually around Junior Assembly timing); or
- 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Training on the use of the tablet and EFTPOS Square will be provided.

If you have good quality school uniform items you no longer need, the P&C will gratefully accept your donation to our second hand uniform stall through the canteen (or please place them in the tub near the front office).
